I can't believe it took the FDA this long to figure out that Mexico was the source of tainted food that has brought Salmonella to summer parties in the USA. Before this, products from China cut a swath through children's toys and pet food.I think that these might not be accidents, but forms of terrorism and, even if they aren't, the USA may want to issue a statement saying that transport of contaminated goods into the USA may, not will, but may... be considered acts of terrorism. The public statement would put everyone on notice, and any side deals could be cut with countries that enjoy favored trade status and have never shipped tainted goods. Those who wanted to have the same sorts of deals would freely allow inspections. What do you think? Is this a good idea?

We've got to hire a lot more Customs types and post them overseas to handle such a move. And a lot more FDA inspectors too. But I like the idea very much. It's very simple to fix the system. Announcing that it is broken and steps are being taken to fix it is a good idea. Especially if we give our allies and friends or at least trading partners a few months to fix their own systems on that end before we let loose with the penalties for non-compliance. Everyone thinks the U.S. NEEEEEDS China and Mexico to accept our exports or to supply access to their exports - not so. They need us more. If they want to continue playing in our markets they should learn the rules and play nice. Eyes4

That is messed up that it took the us this long to figure out where the contamination in the food came from but we all the us is more worried about other things like the gas prices.

As usual the United States is washing their hands off the issue, this is what an arrogant and tyrrant country's twisted way of thinking. If there are inconsistencies, irregularities or issues concerning foods, products, and services they put all the blame to it, even going as far as campaigning against that country, but when they are the ones to be blamed they revert the issue and doesn't take any responsibilities for their negligence and irresponsibility. • Page 1 (Original Post) •
