I am wanting to export a car to Mexico from the US. A new Pontiac Solstice which is to be purchased from a dealership in TEXAS. I live in Mexico part of the year and already have a US vehicle here on a temporary import permit. You can only have one on such a permit.

Our company is officially registered as whole sale car dealership in state of New York, USA. Our business consists of exporting new and used cars, automobiles, boats and trucks. We buy our used or new vehicles; cars from close auto actions such as Manheim and Adesa or directly from authorize dealers and then immediately ship them worldwide. This is the best way to get truly whole sale price for automobiles. We are looking forward to reach new business partners. For more information about our firm, please feel free to visit our website www.autoparkmotors.com

According to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Mexican Nationals are offered the opportunity to export their vehicles to Mexico on a permanent basis. Almost any vehicle can be exported, including brand new models*. Some of the general guidelines are:•The model-year of the vehicle must be ten years before the year in which the export will take place. It is understood that the model-year periods run from the 1st of November of one year to the 31st of October the next year.
•Transport vehicles of up to 15 passengers or trucks with a cargo capacity of up to 4, 536 kilograms, including the panel type, as well as trailers and semitrailers like campers, are allowed.
•The vehicle identification number (VIN) must correspond to vehicles made or assembled in the United States, Canada, or Mexico.
•Any vehicle 1999 – 2003** will qualify as a Border Zone vehicle.
•Cargo vans cannot be exported.
These are the models that can be exported:
•SUVs, VANs, SEDANs

Why would you want to export a car to Mexico? Don't you have nice cars you could buy from there?

Eugens from Europe wrote:"Why would you want to export a car to Mexico? Don't you have nice cars you could buy from there?"
Because most people are not making decent wages that can help them afford a vehicle.
Used cars are mostly in bad condition, especialy due to unpaved roads in rural areas.
I know I am just repeating myself here:

I am a car dealer in Georgia and would like a dealer contact in mexico to start exporting cars, can anyone offer advice?thanks
Comment #14 dustin michael (63.176.159.227) -
You can import only one vehicle in your name. If you have a spouse, or of-age children, each of them can register a car. The car does not have to be in the name of the person registering it, but the actual owner must be present or you must have a letter of permission from the owner. You cannot sell the car in Mexico. There are restrictions on who may drive the car. And one important thing is that some repair parts may not be available and must be ordered from the USA.

1/21/09Trying to transfer a 2001 jeep (110 k miles) and a 1995 Lumina Van (165 k miles) from the us to friends in MX. They are ready to legally cross into the US to receive them in TX in order that they can be registered, insured and driven in MX.
In February 09 I heard that the Govt. will start the LCT (libre comercio de transporte-free comercial transportation) act. The rumor is that the 10 year rule for importing to MX will no longer stand.
What is the drill for getting these two vehicles to the folks that need them and will put them to good use?
What Documents are needed to transfer the vehicle?
What Tax/duties will have to be paid?
What else do we need to know and do?

I had brought my 21 year old car from the USA into Mexico. My temporary permit expires on July 2009. I remember paying 445 usd for this permit. July 2009 is around the corner. Am I required to renew this permit? It is a big expense for us to do so since we live over 2000 miles from the border. sangvia@yahoo.com
