Work related education Education in Mexico Education, MexicoDianaR from USA - Sun May 25 20:50:37 2008
Every country has different requirements for professions, like positions in medicine and law. Are expats allowed to take courses in Mexico that prepare them to work in a more lucrative field than that which they had been in at the time they moved to Mexico? I ask because I have heard that expats are not allowed to participate in the political process in Mexico and thought this exclusion might extend to educational opportunities. Trackbacks

I heard that the immigration process to Mexico is even tougher than the American one.

So I guess that means you might not be able to practice your profession if you were educated for it in another country. You also couldn't be reeducated for it once in Mexico. I guess you had better have a lot of saved money to live on!

Apparently so. I don't understand why countries put these ridiculous obstacles for people who are interested in living and giving to the community.

The objective is to protect their citizens. For example, if you move to Mexico and start working then you are seen as taking a job away from a Mexican. From that perspective you are not "giving" to the community. In the internet age, there are many that can move to a country, work without impacting local jobs and thereby truly give to the community. Those people can run into tremendous obstacles as many countries don't accept "earned" income as a means an expat could support themselves (as earning the income would inherently mean taking jobs away from locals). Additionally, you might find in places where there is a tremendous influx of foreigners than a countries own culture can be impacted on a level much deeper than "taking away jobs". For example, in Costa Rica where the influx of refuges from Nicaragua has resulted in a significant portion of the total population of Costa Rica being Nicaraguan! Or, maybe you'll find London to be more like New Delhi or Lagos.
