Thank author of this post/commentI have an online business that I am thinking about expanding to include hand made items from other countries. I would begin with jewelry, probably but add other products based on their quality, and good taste, of course.

I hadn't considered adding things from Mexico, so far, because there is a large Latino/Hispanic community where I live and it seems like the market is glutted with items from Mexico.

Is it possible to find truly unique items from Mexico?

Thank author of this post/commentI would try and find some suppliers and than organize a trip to go and visit them all.. so you can see the merchandise first hand and then decide what to buy!

Check with the U.S. Customs service one what items you have to pay import taxes on, or more importantly are tax free!

Thank author of this post/commentCheck with Customs first, you can't export just whatever you want... That's what I'd do, at least...

No Len, if you read carefully its the other way around. Mexico to US does not mean "from the US"

Mexico is an ideal provider of export goods principally due to the fact that it is a low income invironment, yes, exactly, meaning that goods manufatured there have a lower cost than U.S. goods. It´s the "maquiladora" principle: cheaper stuff (basically as good or better than local) hits the market at an advantagous rate. Should be able to really do some good business this way. Some think that countries involved in maquiladoras, or free trade zones, tax-free low salary expense areas are really exploting their workers. Selling cheap labor.

But, as they say, a bad job is better than no job at all! Cheers!
