| Cost of medical insurance for American retirees
Medical and Healthcare in Mexico Medical, Brazil
Frank VanSanford from Pennsylvania -
As I consider retirement to Brazil, I have one concern remaining, which is the cost of medical care. Medicare will not pay for medical care outside the USA. The cost of paying for private medical insurance for my wife and I may absorb much of the financial savings that we could have by retiring outside the US. I am seeking advice of those retirees who have already moved to Brazil. Thanks for your help. Trackbacks

I can't speak for Brazil... but in Uruguay... medical coverage (the most expensive you can get) runs about US$100/month. Though other plans can be found for about US$50/month.

Thank you Lee. I'm also considering Uruguay too, although living a bit more north has a greater interest to me. Thanks again.

You want to live a little further north for reasons of weather? You can find tropical locations in Brazil... but of course not in Uruguay... If you are thinking about Uruguay... now is the time to visit as its the middle of winter!Have you consider Uruguay as a base and then spending the winters in Brazil? I think you will find issues of immigration much easier in Uruguay and once you are a resident of Uruguay travel to Brazil (and other Mercosur countries is a breeze).

What are some of the insurance agencies that offer medical insurance for American retirees?
