Is it tough to purchase real estate in Mexico if you are not from the country. I do not really know the laws their. Trackbacks

I wouldn't think that it was any harder than buying a home in the USA. If anything I would think that it would be easier.

Not hard at all, just make sure you use a reputable real estate consultant and they will use a notario who takes care of the title search, paperwork, etc. If you buy in the interior, you own it outright. If you buy it near the border or coast, you own it through a renewable, tranferable trust (fideicomiso) that is kept indefinately as long as you pay the annual fees (about $500 USD yearly). They actually changed the Mexican constitution to allow this and it is modeled after the same type of program in the french riveria.

Also, you will need an FM3, but whomever you work with should walk you through all of this!
