Hey, I'm not Mexican but having grown up in California I sure do love Mexican food...back in California it constituted most of my diet. I'd also like to know the locations of some Mexican food places...particularly ones with strong vegetarian menus because most of my family is vegetarian.

I do know of one, buy food is quite unlike that.. It's not bad at all, just not quite my cup of tea. I don't know the name or the exact location, but it's a fairly nondescript brick building located on Arocena somewhere between 3-8 blocks off the Rambla. I apologize for being so vague and I will try to provide more exact directions.

Ciao :]

Here in Ohio mexican food is hard to come by at least in my city. To find good mexicn food we usually have to travel to another city to get it. I love eating it though.

Though I wonder how close the Mexican food there resembles what you'd get in Mexico!

I've found that traveling around, Chinese food varies considerably depending on what country you are in.

Very true george. I agree with that assumption. You really do not know unless you taste it first hand I guess.

Are you looking for Mexican food recipes in general, americanized medican food (think Taco Bell), or a particular state/region (I am partial to Sanorian)...

By way of reciprocity - here is a recipe for the Mexicans on the board to experience Southern food from the U.S.

(This is real, not a joke, and is making headway in Britain these days too. In fact, this is for a Welsh dish). For American's - a pastie is very similar to a Hot Pocket. they are my favorite meal when I travel in G. Britain.

How to make squirrel pasties

Kevin Viner's recipe for two pasties

140g squirrel meat cut into 1cm cubes;

100g sliced potato; 100g sliced swede; 50g diced onion; 30g smoked bacon;

15g chopped hazelnuts; 75g butter;

5g chopped parsley; a good pinch of salt and pepper

Method

• Egg wash edges of pastry circles.

• Place the potato, swede, hazelnuts, parsley and seasoning on to each circle followed by the bacon, squirrel meat and, finally, the onion.

• Place butter in each pasty, then fold over the pastry and crimp the edges.

• Put the pasties on to a greaseproof baking tray, egg wash both pasties well, place in a pre-heated oven at 180C or gas mark 5.

• Bake for 45-50 minutes. The juices should start to boil and the pasties should be able to move on the tray with ease.

Enjoy!

What's Cooking Mexican by Marlena Spieler. It's a great cookbook, that you can find at any major book store. She has recipes that re just like gandma used to make, and she has many where she's added a "healthful" spin to them.

Also check Martha Stewarts web site, she adds a lot of healthy twists to otherwise traditional food, and so does Ina Garten, The Barefoot Contessa. Or, look at HGTVs website, and do a search for Healthy Mexican Recipes.

You can try this site for recipes. Some of them sound very good.

Spanish Rice

1/4 Cup Vegetable Oil

1 Cup White Rice

1/2 Onion

3/4 Of A Green Bell Pepper

1 Can (1/2 oz.) Diced Tomatoes

1 Can (8 oz.) Tomato Sauce

1 and 1/2 Cups Warm Water

1 Beef Bouillon Cube

1 Teaspoon Chili Powder

1/2 Teaspoon Salt

1/4 Teaspoon Cumin Powder

1/8 Teaspoon Black Pepper

The first step is just getting everything ready. Chop up the bell pepper and onion. If you are worried that you don't have enough the bell pepper should fill a half cup and the onion should be a rounded cup.

Next dissolve the beef bouillon cube in 1 1/2 cups warm water. (don't boil the water just zap it in the microwave.)

Now in the sauce pan:

Heat 1/4 Cup Vegetable Oil

then add and sauté 1 Cup White Rice

Continually stir this until the rice begins to slightly turn tan. Then immediately move on to the second step.

Now quickly add your bell pepper and onion. Continue to stir this until the rice is lightly browned and the pepper and onion are transparent (slightly clear). The pictures to the left should hopefully give you some preference.

Your readers might be interested in knowing that once they leave Mexico, they can get the products to make their favorite dishes at Mexicoetal.com .

It was a life saver to me when I went on assignment in Greece. I had a care package shipped to my hotel room before my arrival.
